Budanov debunked the myth about the security of push-button phones: everyone is tapped

6 August 05:14

In an interview with journalist Ramina Eskhakzai, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, refuted the widespread belief that push-button phones are more difficult to tap. According to him, such devices are vulnerable to interception all over the world, even in countries with a low level of technological development, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"

The myth about the security of push-button phones

Budanov noted that the idea of push-button phones as more secure from wiretapping is false.

“This is generally a myth about old phones. In slang, “two” phones are tapped everywhere and by everyone in the world. Even by very technically backward countries,” he said.

According to him, this myth is actively used in Russia to manipulate the population. According to him, the Russian authorities are promoting the idea of abandoning messengers and switching to outdated phones to make it easier to control citizens’ communications.

“If you take [them – ed.] because of what the Russians show, then there is a different logic. I will calmly reveal it, because this is the enemy’s tactic – they did it for the security reasons of their state, to take (people – ed.) under full control. Because it is technically as easy as possible to wiretap an ordinary device. And to fully control who is talking about what, they tell everyone: “No messengers, nothing. Only old push-button devices,” and so on,” explained the head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

As reported by [Kommersant], Budanov spoke about the qualities that an intelligence officer should have and how to get such a profession.
