A subcontractor for the construction of the Podilsko-Voskresenskyi Bridge across the Dnipro River in Kyiv has been suspected of embezzling UAH 6 million. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Law enforcement officers found out that the contractor was cleaning metal structures using a diving station. According to the investigation, the company submitted false data on the scope of these works and received more than UAH 6 million for their performance.

At the same time, the conclusions of the construction, technical and economic expertise showed that the contractor had actually done nothing.

The head of the subcontractor was served a notice of suspicion of misappropriation of budget funds on a particularly large scale (part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The indictment was sent to court. He faces up to 12 years in prison.

Investigations into other facts of misappropriation of budget funds during the construction of the Podil Bridge are ongoing. Contractors and companies have repeatedly received suspicions of embezzlement and tax evasion during the construction of the bridge. For example, in May this year, the Prosecutor’s Office notified the head of the general contractor of suspicion of embezzlement of UAH 24 million during the construction of the Podilsko-Voskresenskyi Bridge in Kyiv.

The Podilsko-Voskresenskyi Bridge is supposed to connect Podil with the left-bank districts of Voskresenka and Rayduzhnyi Massif. Construction began in 1993 (actually in 2003) and was stopped due to lack of funding.
