He was Zelensky’s confidant: what is known about MP Shevchenko, who is suspected of treason (video)
14 November 2024 17:01
On November 14, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) notified the MP of suspicion of high treason. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the official Telegram channel of the SBI.
As confirmed by a comprehensive psychological, linguistic and military examination, the MP began to harm Ukraine’s defense and information security even before the full-scale invasion of Russia.
Thus, in 2021, he published false information about the absence of a threat of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation from the territory of the Republic of Belarus.
Investigators also established his contacts with representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus after he entered the parliamentary rostrum with the flag of this country in September 2020.

The MP recorded programs on his own channels and gave interviews to pro-Russian bloggers and experts. After that, this content was distributed to propaganda media in Russia in order to create a public position in the aggressor’s country that this was the official position of a representative of the Ukrainian authorities. In the programs, the MP disseminated information that asserted in the mass consciousness the idea that the Ukrainian government had brought the country to a complete collapse, loss of territory and people, and was unable to achieve peace. The MP also imposed the idea that Ukraine was no longer able to win and should negotiate with Russia on any terms.
He also disseminated information aimed at discrediting Western partners and European values.
According to the investigation, under the patronage of the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, the MP and his close relatives conducted active business with representatives of this country, including in the electricity and fertilizer markets. Buying goods there at low prices, they imported them to Ukraine through another European country and sold them at much higher prices.
the “favorable regime” on the part of the Belarusian authorities allowed the MP to receive 1.5 million euros in net profit in six months. At the same time, he was able to transfer only 500 thousand euros to Ukraine. The rest was not received due to the blocking of questionable transactions by the financial monitoring of a European bank.
It was also recorded that during this time the MP purchased and registered three luxury cars for his relatives with a total value of 500 thousand US dollars.
It should be noted that the SBI does not name the MP suspected of treason. However, the media report that it is Yevhen Shevchenko.
If the politician is proven guilty, he faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Meanwhile, the Main Intelligence Directorate said that MP Shevchenko, who called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to negotiate with Russia, was not their employee. The intelligence service believes that such actions should be adequately assessed by the competent authorities.

“The person in question is not an employee of the GUR,” said Andriy Yusov, a representative of the agency.
He also added that any step towards justifying the occupier, attempts to shift responsibility from the aggressor to the victim is obviously warming up the enemy.
