Due to the energy crisis: Europeans are being urged to work from home and drive less
1 April 13:11
Due to the war in Iran, Europe could face a major energy crisis. The European Commission is urging citizens to work from home and reduce their car and air travel.
This was stated by European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Politico.
According to the European Commissioner, the energy supply situation in Europe is “very serious,” and even if peace is restored in the near future, a return to normal life will be impossible.
During an extraordinary meeting of energy ministers from 27 EU countries, Jørgensen noted that saving oil is now critically important.
“The more you can do to conserve oil, especially diesel fuel and aviation fuel, the better for us,” the European Commissioner emphasized.
He urged Europeans to:
- work from home whenever possible;
- reduce speed limits on highways;
- promote public transportation and car-sharing;
- adopt fuel-efficient driving techniques.
In the long term, Jorgensen also called on the EU to accelerate the development of renewable energy sources and increase energy independence.
Energy Crisis
As a reminder, the war in the Middle East has caused fuel shortages in Europe, leading to significant price hikes and the introduction of limits at gas stations.
Central Europe has been hit hardest by the crisis.
Governments of individual countries are trying to stop panic and “fuel tourism” by introducing strict daily limits.
