Due to limited supply: cucumber prices in Ukraine remain consistently high

This week, several greenhouse complexes in Ukraine began selling cucumbers from the new crop, according to analysts at EastFruit, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
It should be noted that isolated batches of local vegetables appeared on the market at the end of last week, and today these products have already begun to appear on sale en masse. According to market participants, the new volumes of cucumbers are still insufficient to fully meet current consumer demand. This circumstance allows sellers to keep prices in this segment at a fairly high level.
Currently, the supply of cucumbers is quite limited, which, against the backdrop of consistently high demand, allows Ukrainian producers to sell this product at 140-180 UAH/kg ($3.25-4.18/kg), depending on the variety, quality, and volume of the vegetable batches offered. For comparison, imported cucumbers from Turkey are currently sold in the range of 130-160 UAH/kg ($3.02-3.72/kg). Market participants explain this price difference by the higher quality of local products, limited supply, and higher production costs for this crop.
Despite the rather cold winter, this year’s season for selling new cucumbers in Ukraine began at about the same time as last year. However, the cost of this product during the same period last year was on average 14% higher than it is now.
According to the project experts, a more significant price reduction in this market segment should be expected no earlier than in 1.5-2 months, when the supply of cucumbers from both stationary combines and film greenhouses will increase significantly.
