Following the collapse of negotiations with Iran: Trump has decided to block the Strait of Hormuz himself
12 April 18:12
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that, due to the failure of negotiations with Iran, the U.S. Navy is beginning a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. No ship will be allowed to enter or leave the strait.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a post by Trump on his own social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump stated that negotiations with Iran allegedly went “well,” but an agreement could not be reached due to Iran’s unwillingness to give up its nuclear weapons. Therefore, the U.S. is announcing the start of a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
“At some point, we will reach the principle of ‘everyone is allowed to leave, everyone is allowed to enter,’ but Iran did not allow this to happen, simply saying, ‘Maybe there are mines out there,’ which no one but them knows about,” Trump said.
According to him, the U.S. Navy command has been ordered to “search and intercept” all vessels that pay Iran a “fee” for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
“No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas. We will also begin destroying the mines laid by the Iranians in the straits. Any Iranian who fires at us or at peaceful vessels will be sent to hell! Iran knows better than anyone how to put an end to this situation, which has already devastated their country,” the president emphasized.
Trump also stated that the blockade will begin “soon,” and that other countries will allegedly be involved in enforcing it. The U.S. will not allow Iran to receive money from the passage of ships or to develop nuclear weapons.
“Furthermore, at the appropriate moment, we will be fully ‘prepared and ready,’ and our military will destroy what little remains of Iran!” Trump promised.
U.S. Negotiations with Iran: What We Know
Recall that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that following negotiations with Iran in Pakistan, the parties failed to reach an agreement to end the war. In particular, Tehran is not yet ready to abandon its nuclear program.
Interestingly, Trump himself stated that he doesn’t care whether there is an agreement with Iran at all. He claims that regardless of the outcome, the United States has won and continues to win.
According to media reports, negotiations between the U.S. and Iran have reached an impasse over the issue of control of the Strait of Hormuz. Specifically, Tehran wants to retain control and opposes “joint” management. The U.S., however, wants to prevent such an outcome.
The most ironic part is that before the negotiations, Trump claimed that the strait would be opened regardless of whether a deal with Iran was reached or not. A little later on Saturday, he announced the process of unblocking the Strait of Hormuz.
