4 nuclear power units shut down in Ukraine due to Russian missile attack

Ukraine has notified the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the serious consequences of themassive missile attack carried out by the Russian Federation on the country’s critical infrastructure on Monday, 26 August. The attack was reportedly aimed at paralysing the operation of energy facilities, including nuclear power plants. This is stated in a letter from the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the International Organisations in Vienna to the IAEA, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to the letter, as a result of the attack on 26 August at 08:58 Kyiv time, power units 1, 3 and 4 of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant were disconnected from the grid. At 09:05 on the same day, the power output at the South Ukrainian NPP was reduced to a total of 1800 MW.
Subsequently, due to fluctuations in the national power grid caused by the Russian attack, at 17:10, power unit No.3 of the South Ukrainian NPP was disconnected from the grid.

Ukraine emphasises that the Russian Federation deliberately continues to target the country’s energy infrastructure in an attempt to disrupt the stable operation of nuclear power plants that provide most of Ukraine’s electricity. Such actions by Russia pose a significant threat to the stable operation of nuclear facilities and the safety of millions of people.
The Ukrainian side asked the IAEA Secretariat to immediately disseminate this information to all member states, so it was published there.
