Because of the TCC? Kirovohrad region: man shoots himself with a gun taken from a police officer

In the city of Svitlovodsk, Kirovohrad region, a man committed suicide by taking a weapon from a police officer. This was reported to Suspilne by Olha Protsenko, a spokeswoman for the territorial department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Mykolaiv, Komersant ukrainskyi https://www.komersant.info/ reports.

According to her, on the night of 28 March, police received a report that a local resident was threatening to commit suicide. Arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers, due to the man’s inadequate behaviour, called an ambulance for his further hospitalisation.

After medical examination, the man was to be taken to a psychiatric hospital in the regional centre. Near the polyclinic, he snatched an assault rifle from a police officer and shot himself in the head. The man died on the spot from his wound.

According to media reports, which have not yet been verified, the man, accompanied by a police unit, was allegedly taken not to the polyclinic but to the Svitlovodsk TCC of the JV. It was there that he took the police officer’s assault rifle and committed suicide.

The SBI opened a criminal investigation into this fact on the grounds of official negligence under Article 367(3). The sanction of the article provides for a sentence of up to 8 years in prison.

The police are also investigating the circumstances of the incident, Vitalina Bevzenko, a spokeswoman for the regional police, told Suspilne:

“Based on the results of the internal investigation, a legal assessment will be made of the actions of the police officers who were at the scene. For the duration of the investigation, they and the deputy head of the territorial unit for preventive activities have been suspended from duty.”

It should be noted that on 24 March, unidentified persons threw two Molotov cocktails near the building of the shopping centre and joint venture in Svitlovodsk.

According to regional police spokeswoman Vitalina Bevzenko, the bottles of flammable substance were thrown at the area near the building around midnight. The fire was extinguished by the staff of the institution on their own. No damage was recorded and no one was injured.
