Another Russian attack on the railway: train traffic is experiencing delays

12 January 09:20

Russian troops launched another series of strikes on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure this morning. Ukrzaliznytsia is organizing transfers for passengers and repairing the damaged sections.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi.

Strike on the railway

According to Pertsovsky, the Russians attacked the railway infrastructure again in the early morning. In this regard, railway workers are entering the new week in a state of maximum mobilization, repairing damage and ensuring passenger transportation.

“In the early morning, there was a series of attacks on the railway infrastructure. We are entering this week focused and determined to restore, transport, and evacuate again,” he said.

Train delays

Despite the shelling and difficult weather conditions, trains continue to run:

  • Four trains arrived in Kyiv during curfew
  • one each to Khmelnytskyi, Dnipro, and Lviv

In all cases, Ukrainian Railways coordinated with local authorities — passengers were met by bus transfers and allowed to travel around the city with their tickets. One of the Intercity trains on its way to the depot even served as a “city express” to the left bank of Kyiv with all the necessary stops for passengers.

For passengers waiting for flights, rest rooms at train stations were made free of charge. UZ also introduced additional notifications about:

  • delay forecasts,
  • bus transfers,
  • international connections.

Some trains continue to run on detour routes, so delays are still possible.

“The entire railway team is committed to ensuring that every journey is safe, warm, and comfortable,” Pertsovsky emphasized.

Shelling of Ukrzaliznytsia

Recently, the Russian army has been systematically striking the railway infrastructure. Initially, the enemy terrorized railway workers in the north of the country, in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions.

Last fall, a number of damages to trains and tracks were recorded there. This led to significant delays in traffic.

Then the enemy targeted railways in other regions of the country. In particular, the Russians bombed the railway station and locomotive depot in Fastiv.
