Why you shouldn’t save passwords in your browser: tips from cyber police
1 April 02:29
The modern world requires the use of dozens of passwords for various services, and many users store them directly in their browsers to avoid entering them every time. This is convenient, but extremely dangerous. Ukraine’s cyber police warns that if fraudsters hack into your computer, they can easily steal all your passwords, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Why storing passwords in the browser is dangerous
Storing passwords in browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari seems like a convenient solution, but it has serious risks:
- Theft by fraudsters. If attackers gain access to your computer – through a virus, phishing, or hacking – they can extract all stored passwords in seconds.
- Physical access. Anyone who sits down at your computer – a coworker, friend, or even a thief – can view or copy passwords without much effort.
“Storing passwords in a browser is like leaving your keys under the door mat. It seems convenient, but is it safe?” the cyber police emphasize.
These risks make the browser one of the least secure places for your data.

How to store passwords better
Cyberpolice recommends that you refuse to use auto-save passwords in browsers and memorize them yourself.
“We are confident that memorizing passwords is the most reliable way to store them,” the experts say.
To make this process easier, use the tips from the cyber police:
- How to create complex passwords – link.
- How to remember them easily – link.
- If you have too many passwords, consider using a password manager – a special encrypted application that securely stores your data.
Project Brama: join the fight against cyber threats

In addition to password protection, the cyber police invites Ukrainians to join the Brama social project, created with the support of volunteers.
Police Captain Andrii Parkhomenko, Head of the Cybercrime Department in Kyiv, explained:
“The main goal is to cleanse the information space of Russian propaganda and disinformation services, as well as to destroy centers of illegal distribution of prohibited content.”
The project’s mission is to reduce the presence of hostile content and teach Ukrainians how to identify it.
How to join? All you need is a phone or computer and a few minutes of time. Participants send complaints about posts, links, or services provided by the organizers.
“The more complaints, the more likely it is that the content will be blocked,” the cyber police add.

Tips for keeping your data safe
- Disable auto-save passwords in your browser. Go to the settings and delete the already saved data.
- Create unique passwords. Do not use the same password for multiple sites.
- Memorize or use a password manager. This will protect you from cybercriminals and accidental “guests”.
- Keep your device secure. Update your antivirus regularly and avoid suspicious links.
