Will there be power cuts on 23 August: power engineers answered

There will be no power cuts in Ukraine on Friday, 23 August. But there is one caveat, reports "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to the official Telegram channel of “Ukrenergo“.

The national energy company said that it does not plan to apply blackout schedules tomorrow. However, the situation in the energy sector may change. Therefore, Ukrainians are advised to follow the company’s new messages on social media. They are also advised to use electricity sparingly and not to overload the country’s energy system.

Current situation in the energy sector in Ukraine

The Ministry of Energy saysthat the heat wave continues to cause shortages in the power grid, but power companies are minimising restrictions and introducing fewer blackouts than expected. However, the situation in the energy system remains difficult due to significant damage to energy facilities as a result of massive attacks on infrastructure. Russian troops continue daily shelling of energy facilities, particularly in the frontline and border regions. Substations and power lines suffer the most damage.

Despite the difficulties, a large-scale repair campaign is underway to restore power facilities before the autumn and winter period.

Power engineers have also restored electricity supply to nearly 3,000 consumers who were cut off due to the hostilities. As of this morning, 63 settlements in two oblasts were without power due to the weather.

No electricity exports are currently taking place and are not expected. For the current day, imports from Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Moldova are forecast to reach a maximum capacity of 1333 MW in some hours.
