Should Ukrainian drivers expect gasoline at UAH 75: an expert sets the record straight

ANALYSIS FROM The spread of information about the escalation in the Persian Gulf has raised concerns about rising fuel prices in Ukraine. However, according to experts, there is no reason to panic.
Economist Oleg Pendzin told [Komersant ] that the situation on the global oil market is stabilizing, the conflict has not affected transit, and the cost of oil is even decreasing. This means that gasoline prices will not rise in Ukraine. At least in the near future.
According to him, the situation on the oil market is currently showing the opposite trend: from rising prices to falling ones. And if at the beginning of the aggravation there were reasonable fears that in case of blocking the Strait of Hormuz, the price of oil could rise rapidly to $100 per barrel, this scenario is now lost.

In general, the crisis in the Persian Gulf has already been resolved, so there is hope that the situation will not worsen. So, probably, prices will soon return to the level from which they started to move up before the war in the Persian Gulf. This is somewhere around $68-67 per barrel,” the economist predicts.
“Expectations of a jump in gasoline prices in Ukraine – an increase of 10-12 hryvnias per liter – were directly related to the possibility of blocking the Strait of Hormuz. However, this did not happen.
Yes, there were some fears that if the Strait of Hormuz was blocked, the price of oil would jump to $100 per barrel of Brent and automatically lead to an increase in prices in Ukraine of about 10-12 hryvnias plus. But the crisis has been resolved and there are no such fears now,” Pendzin concludes.
The expert also added that against the background of stabilization of the situation on the international market, Ukraine is not expected to see any sharp changes in fuel prices, at least in the short term.
