US President Donald Trump has said that his phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin could take place this week or early next week. The American politician said this during a conversation with journalists, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Trump’s call to Putin
US President Donald Trump has said that his phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin may take place this week or early next week.
In an interview with journalists, he said that he was not satisfied with the ongoing fighting in Ukraine, and that Russia was delaying the process of reaching a peaceful settlement.
Trump has previously spoken about a possible call to Putin. Thus, on September 7, he expected a conversation “in the coming days,” and on September 4 – “in the near future.”
In turn, Putin has repeatedly emphasized that he is open to negotiations.
White House reaction
White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt has not yet confirmed a new call between Trump and Putin.
When asked about a possible conversation this week, Leavitt said:
“I have no information about phone calls between the president and other foreign leaders.”
Previous meeting between Trump and Putin
On August 15, Trump and Putin held a three-hour meeting in Anchorage, Alaska. Both sides called it productive.
Earlier, the American president said that the settlement of the war in Ukraine is complicated by the hostility between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
At the same time, Trump is determined to end the war.
Russian drone attack on Poland: Trump’s reaction
on September 10, 2025, Poland reported a violation of its airspace by Russian drones during a massive attack on Ukraine.
As a result of the incident, Poland activated consultations under NATO Article 4, which indicates a serious escalation of the situation.
Against this background, journalists asked Donald Trump about his attitude to the violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones. The US President refused to comment on the situation and ignored the question, continuing on his way to his car.
