In the fall, Ukrainians are traditionally interested in one of the main issues – the price situation with potatoes. After last year’s price swings, when the cost of potatoes increased significantly due to the market shortage, consumers are now closely monitoring the new harvest and producers’ forecasts. Should we prepare for a price increase in the fall, or will potatoes remain affordable? Industry experts reassure us that there are no objective reasons for the price increase.

In the commentary "Komersant Ukrainian"serhiy Rybalko, a member of the Ukrainian Association of Potato Producers and head of Adelaide Farm, said there were no reasons to raise potato prices.

“There are no reasons to raise potato prices, to put it bluntly. The harvest is complete and potatoes are being harvested. Unless there are any cataclysms, such as prolonged rains for 3 weeks or frosts of 5-10 degrees. That is, if this does not happen, then I do not see any reason for potato prices to rise,” the expert said.

According to him, the harvest is approximately at the level of last year, a little better, about 10-15% better, but more potatoes have been planted, and the planting area has increased.

“There is also a very good harvest in Europe, and this harvest in Europe puts a lot of pressure on the Ukrainian market. That is, a lot of budget procurement, including those who work for the army, are now buying Polish potatoes. Therefore, there will be no such deficit as last year,” emphasized Mr. Rybalko.

As reported by [Kommersant]reported, according to representatives of the Ukrainian Association of Potato Growers, some agricultural enterprises have doubled their potato production this year. This situation may create an oversupply of the product on the market and cause prices to fall compared to previous periods.
