The former MP and deputy head of the Party of Regions faction, who served as the head of the Kyiv City State Administration, is suspected of tax evasion. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the State Bureau of Investigation and the Prosecutor General’s Office.

It is noted that the official failed to pay UAH 71 million in taxes on profits of more than UAH 387 million.

Law enforcement officers did not name the suspect, but noted that he served as deputy chairman of the Party of Regions and headed the Kyiv City State Administration. It is known that from January to March 2014, the administration was headed by Volodymyr Makeenko, who also served as deputy head of the Party of Regions. In 2019 and 2023, the State Bureau of Investigation conducted searches at his place of residence in the case of tax evasion.

According to security forces, the MP received income abroad in 2011-2018 totalling more than UAH 387 million and failed to pay personal income tax and military duty totalling UAH 71.4 million from this money.

The Prosecutor General’s Office stated that the former MP had created a network of foreign companies registered in his name and controlled by him. The companies received “funds of dubious origin” and transferred them to Makeenko.

The SBI served Makeenko with a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code (tax evasion, which resulted in a large-scale failure to pay taxes to the budget). He faces up to three years in prison with confiscation of property.
