SBI uncovers scheme with ballistic glasses for the Ministry of Defense worth UAH 26 million

Law enforcement officers have exposed large-scale abuses in the procurement of ballistic goggles for the army, which caused almost UAH 26 million in losses to the state. This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Officials of the Ministry of Defense and the director of the company were notified of suspicion.
According to the investigation, in September 2024, one of the Ministry’s state-owned enterprises signed a contract for the purchase of 18,000 ballistic goggles. However, the delivered goggles did not meet the declared characteristics and did not provide adequate protection against fragments. This was confirmed by relevant examinations.
The director of the supplier company was detained. He is charged with misappropriation of another’s property by abuse of office on a particularly large scale committed under martial law under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Also, a former official of the Central Quality Department, who was supposed to control the quality of goods, but showed negligence, was suspected of negligence under Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The full range of defense officials involved in the crime is being established.
