Shortage of high-quality beets pushes prices up on the Ukrainian market

According to analysts at EastFruit, there has been an upward trend in prices for table beets on the Ukrainian market this week. Domestic producers report a reduction in stocks of root vegetables of adequate quality, while demand for this product from wholesale companies and retail chains is growing, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

As a result, producers are currently able to sell table beets at a price range of 5–10 UAH/kg ($0.12–0.23/kg), which is on average 19% more expensive than at the end of last week.

Market participants attribute the price increase in this segment to a significant reduction in product supply. Today, sales of root vegetables from unequipped storage facilities are practically complete, and the supply of substandard vegetables has also decreased significantly, which, in turn, has allowed producers to raise prices for high-quality products.

At the same time, it should be noted that current prices for table beets in Ukraine are on average 49% lower than in the same period last year. However, market participants do not rule out that the upward price trend may be temporary. In their opinion, further price increases may encourage farmers to step up sales of root crops from storage facilities, which will lead to an increase in supply and, as a result, to a decline in prices in this segment.
