MPs will check the legality of formation of tariffs for electricity and utilities in Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada has set up a temporary investigative commission to investigate possible violations of Ukrainian legislation in the formation and implementation of pricing and tariff policy in the spheres of energy and public utilities. This is stated in the press service of parliament, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The commission will be headed by MP Oleksiy Kucherenko from the faction of the Fatherland party, and Vyacheslav Medyanik from the Servants of the People was elected deputy chairman.
What exactly the MPs will study
The MPs will focus their main weight on:
- investigating the economic feasibility of electricity prices for household consumers, which were set by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in 2023-2024;
- investigation of possible facts of violation of the legislation of Ukraine in the calculation of prices for electricity for household consumers, which were set by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in 2023-2024;
- investigation of possible violations in the calculation, establishment and application of tariffs for transportation, distribution and storage of natural gas;
- investigation of the reasons for the formation of debts of electricity market entities and natural gas market entities in the process of performing their special duties to ensure public interests in the respective markets;
- investigation of possible violations in the calculation, establishment and application of tariffs for economic entities in the spheres of heat supply, centralized water supply and centralized water disposal.
Also from the text of the parliamentary decision it can be concluded that the investigative commission will study not only the legality and validity of tariff setting, but also the way the work on the protection of energy infrastructure has been carried out recently. As noted in the statement, the commission should investigate the facts of possible violations of Ukrainian legislation when organizing the protection and ensuring the safety of the functioning of energy facilities, the use of funds for the implementation of such measures.
