Ukraine’s national debt decreased by more than $1 billion in a month

As of 29 February 2024, Ukraine’s public and publicly guaranteed debt amounted to UAH 5 trillion 490.10 billion, or USD 143.69 billion. This was reported by the Ministry of Finance, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
As of 29 February 2024, Ukraine’s public and publicly guaranteed debt amounted to UAH 5,490.10 billion, or USD 143.69 billion. This includes: state and state-guaranteed external debt – UAH 3,824.71 billion (69.67% of the total amount of state and state-guaranteed debt), or USD 100.10 billion. The state and state-guaranteed domestic debt amounted to UAH 1,665.38 billion (30.33%) or USD 43.59 billion. THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE DOMESTIC DEBT WAS USD 1,665.38 BILLION (OR USD 100.59 BILLION).
According to the Ministry of Finance, in February 2024, the amount of debt increased by UAH 2.03 billion in the hryvnia equivalent and decreased by USD 1.21 billion in the dollar equivalent.
The difference is explained by the hryvnia devaluation. The official dollar exchange rate increased from 37.87 to 37.97 UAH/USD over the month.
Amid debt repayments, Ukraine did not receive any international loans.
According to the National Bank, in February Ukraine received:
- uSD 514.4 million in grant funds from Japan, received through the World Bank;
- uSD 295.0 million in grant funds from Norway, received through the World Bank.
As of the beginning of 2024, Ukraine’s total public debt reached a record high of USD 145.32 billion. This was the highest level of public debt in the history of the country’s independence.
