US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Ukraine can do more in its fight against corruption and the US is engaged in a dialogue with it. He said this during a briefing, according to Correspondent Ukrainian ![]()
“We have long been talking to the Ukrainian government about the need to take anti-corruption measures. We have seen them take a number of measures to fight corruption over the past few years. We believe they can do more, and we have an ongoing dialogue with them on this topic,”
– miller said.
It should be clarified that he was answering a frankly incorrect question. The journalist asked him, “Has the US confirmed anything about internal corruption in Ukraine’s defence industry, including the [artillery shell] case?” In response to a clarifying question about which report he was referring to, the journalist added: “There are reports that Ukraine is involved in tens of billions of dollars of corruption in the defence industry, including the theft of hundreds of thousands of artillery shells.
However, no official or other reputable sources have reported cases of corruption in the Ukrainian defence sector worth tens of billions of dollars.
