State Department urges Americans to leave Iran immediately: what is happening
13 January 05:29
On Monday, January 12, the US State Department issued an urgent warning to its citizens who are still in Iran, urging them to leave the country immediately. This is stated in a message on the website of the US Embassy in Iran, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
It is noted that the situation in the country is becoming uncontrollable and that citizens should evacuate on their own without waiting for help from Washington.
“Leave Iran immediately. Have a plan to leave that does not rely on assistance from the US government,” the statement said.
Why the US is urging people to flee Iran
The State Department statement emphasizes that the presence of foreigners, including US citizens, in Iran has become extremely dangerous. Washington warns directly that the US government cannot guarantee protection or organize evacuation in the event of an escalation.
The diplomatic agency emphasizes the critical level of danger. Mass unrest is intensifying in the country, the authorities are blocking the internet, closing roads, and restricting public transport.
Advice for Americans on leaving the country
As air travel is unstable, the State Department recommends considering land routes if it is safe at the time of departure. In particular, this refers to the borders with:
- Armenia
- Turkey
US citizens are also advised to have alternative means of communication, as nationwide internet shutdowns are already being reported in Iran.
It is also noted that presenting a US passport may be grounds for detention by the Iranian authorities.
