State Energy Supervision to check the “fairness” of power outage schedules

11 July 2024 16:18

The State Energy Supervision Inspectorate will check whether regional power distribution companies apply hourly outage schedules and ensure fair distribution of electricity in the regions. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the press service of the inspectorate.

“We are closely monitoring the flow of citizens’ complaints about unfair distribution. We have already identified several areas where an in-depth inspection is likely to take place in the near future,”

– said Ruslan Slobodyan, Head of the State Energy Supervision Service.

According to him, the on-site inspections will examine how the distribution system operator complied with the principle of social justice in the distribution of electricity.

The Head of the State Energy Supervision Service clarified that Dnipropetrovska oblast is currently in the lead in terms of the number of complaints. The agency suggested that the in-depth inspection is likely to start with this region, followed by 5-6 more regions.

The Chairman noted that the schedules of hourly outages may not be adhered to because stabilisation outages include emergency outages caused, in particular, by heat.

“At the same time, there are reasonable suspicions that some distribution system operators (oblenergos) did not apply the hourly outage schedules correctly. We will check this carefully. Based on the results, we will issue appropriate orders to eliminate violations with recommendations for their further avoidance,” he said,

– slobodyan said.

It should be noted that today, 11 July, regional power distribution companies are imposing consumption restrictions throughout the day. From 16:00 to 23:00 , four rounds of blackouts will be used to compensate for the energy shortage in the system, and three rounds will be used at other times. The reason for this is a significant increase in consumption due to the abnormal heat in Ukraine and Europe against the backdrop of the existing significant energy shortage in the system, which is a consequence of Russian terrorist attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector.

Today, a total of 28,487 MWh of electricity will be imported from Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Moldova, with a maximum capacity of 1,444 MW. There are no exports and no plans for exports.
