Ninth attack this winter: Russia strikes thermal power plants again
3 February 08:56
Russian occupation forces carried out another massive shelling of DTEK’s thermal power plants. As a result of the attack, the TPP equipment was seriously damaged, which complicates the stable operation of thermal generation in winter conditions. This was reported by the company’s press service, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Targeted strikes on thermal power generation
DTEK emphasized that the current shelling was the ninth massive attack on thermal power plants since October 2025.
According to energy experts, Russian troops are systematically and deliberately targeting thermal power generation facilities in an attempt to weaken Ukraine’s energy system during the heating season.
More than 220 attacks since the start of the full-scale war
In total, since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, DTEK’s thermal power plants have been attacked more than 220 times. The shelling has resulted not only in extensive damage to equipment, but also in human casualties.
According to the company:
- 59 TPP employees were wounded;
- 4 power engineers were killed while performing their duties.
Despite the constant threat, power engineers continue to work to maintain the power system and repair damaged facilities.
