“Diia will launch online divorce – how it will work
9 October 04:04
Ukrainians will soon receive another digital service – the possibility of divorce through the Diia app. The government has made the decision, and the service will become available in 2026. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“It will be possible to get a divorce quickly and online. The service will appear in Diia in 2026 and will be available to spouses who do not have minor children,” Svyrydenko said.
Who will be able to use the service
The innovation will apply to spouses without minor children.
If the family has children under 18 or a dispute over property, the divorce procedure will remain in court.
How will divorce through Diia work?
According to Svyrydenko, the new feature will make the divorce process quick and convenient. Instead of several visits to the registry office and collection of documents, spouses will be able to submit an application through the Diia app.
After that, the system will automatically check the data in the state registers.
Key stages of the procedure:
- Submission oftheapplication: Both partners fill out an application in Diia.
- Data verification: The system automatically analyzes the information from the registers.
- Waiting: Within 30 days of filing the application, the marriage will be dissolved if neither party withdraws the application.
- Receiving the certificate: An electronic certificate of divorce will appear in the application.
This one-month waiting period allows you to reconsider the decision, which reduces the risk of impulsive divorces.
The certificate in Diia will have the same legal force as a paper document.
Currently, in Ukraine, divorce is possible through:
- Civilregistry office: for couples without children or by mutual agreement.
- Court: if there are minor children or disputed issues (property, alimony).
- Electronic court: online filing of an application through the website.
In addition, Diia already has an electronic extract from the Civil Registry Office, which confirms the fact of divorce, if the data is entered into the registry. However, this extract is not a full-fledged certificate, but only a digital confirmation of official data.
Why is it important?
The introduction of divorce through Diia is part of the strategy of digitalization of public services in Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, in 2024, more than 20 million services were provided through Diia, including marriage registration, childbirth, and passport issuance.
The new feature will reduce bureaucracy, save time and money for citizens, and reduce the burden on the registry office.
