16 February 18:44

In Kyiv, 12,290 new cases of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, including COVID-19, were recorded in the seventh week of 2026. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration with reference to the city center for disease control and prevention, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Despite the increase in the number of patients, the incidence rate remains below the average epidemic threshold.

What the numbers say

  • Incidence rate: 416.3 — 31.8% below the average intensity level
  • Dynamics: 7.4% compared to the previous week
  • Number of cases:
    • 6,796 adults
    • 5,494 children
    • 2,593 cases among schoolchildren

Separately, 24 cases of COVID-19 were recorded , including 3 among children.

Hospitalizations and mortality

  • Hospitalized: 452 patients with influenza and SARS
    • 248 of them are children
  • COVID-19: 10 hospitalizations, including 1 child
  • Intensive care: 2 adult patients with COVID-19
  • Fatalities per week:
    • 2 — from complications of influenza
    • 1 — from complications of COVID-19

Why this is important

The increase in the number of patients is occurring against the backdrop of the active phase of the epidemic season, which began in Ukraine at the end of September 2025 and will continue until mid-May 2026.

At the same time, data show that the capital is still below the epidemic threshold, and the main burden on the healthcare system is caused by influenza and SARS, not COVID-19.

The epidemic season for influenza, COVID-19, and other ARVI in Ukraine officially began on September 29, 2025, and will end on May 17, 2026, according to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Doctors have previously warned that the influenza A virus this season may cause a more severe course of the disease, especially among risk groups.
