To support AI: Musk’s SpaceX to launch a million satellites into Earth orbit

Billionaire Elon Musk’s company SpaceX has applied to launch one million satellite data centers into Earth’s orbit to support artificial intelligence.

This was reported by Bloomberg, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

SpaceX notes that the network will run on solar energy and will help process the huge amounts of information that are growing along with the development of AI.

The company emphasizes that the need for data processing due to the expansion of artificial intelligence already exceeds “earthly capabilities.” And “orbital data centers” are the most economical and energy-efficient way to meet the demand for AI.

The system, which can be launched using the reusable Starship rocket, will be a cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative to ground-based data centers. Instead of large cooling systems that use a lot of water, the satellites will rely on radiation cooling in space and will be powered by the sun.

The satellites will also use laser channels to communicate with each other and will be launched to an altitude of 500 to 2,000 km, giving them almost constant access to the sun.

“The cheapest place to put artificial intelligence will be in space, and that will happen within two years, maybe three at the latest,” Elon Musk added at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
