A day without power outages: when and where the power will be on all day

5 July 2024 16:11

Ukrenergo announced a day without power outages for different regions from 9 to 24 July. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing the official Telegram channel of the national energy company.

The company explained that from 9 to 24 July, all regions will change their blackout schedules. In each region, there will be no restrictions on one of the days during these two weeks. On the other days, consumption restrictions will be implemented according to the schedules published by the regional power distribution companies in each region.

“This is necessary to measure the actual consumption in each region. Such measurements are carried out every year – in winter and summer – and allow us to more accurately predict the operating modes of the country’s power system,” Ukrenergo explains.

Why is this necessary?

Thanks to these measurements, the Ukrenergo Dispatch Centre will be able to see how consumers behave when they have constant access to electricity. They will be able to determine exactly how much electricity each region is currently consuming without restrictions, and how much electricity each region needs for its vital functions.

The analysis of this data will help to ensure a more even and correct distribution of the available power in the system between the regions.

When and in which regions there will be power all day long

  • 9 July: Dnipropetrovska oblast;
  • 10 July: Kyiv city;
  • 11 July: Kyiv and Khmelnytskyi regions;
  • 12 July: Donetsk, Chernihiv, Odesa regions;
  • 16 July: Zaporizhzhia, Vinnytsia, Rivne regions;
  • 18 July: Volyn, Lviv, Chernivtsi regions;
  • 19 July: Ternopil, Poltava, Kherson, Zakarpattia regions;
  • 23 July: Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv regions;
  • 24 July: Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Sumy, Kirovohrad regions.

At the same time, the national energy company stressed that these dates may not be final. After all, future massive missile and drone attacks by the Russian Armed Forces on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure could lead to a crisis situation and new severe blackouts.
