The dollar and euro have reached record highs: what is happening with the hryvnia

8 January 06:57

The hryvnia exchange rate against major world currencies simultaneously reached a historic high. The National Bank of Ukraine set record official exchange rates against both the US dollar and the euro on Thursday, January 8, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

New record highs

According to the regulator, 1 US dollar is worth 42.72 hryvnia, which is a new historic high for the second day in a row. At the same time, the euro exchange rate was set at 49.92 hryvnia, exceeding the previous record set on December 31 by another 6 kopecks.

Thus, on January 8, both key foreign currencies are more expensive relative to the hryvnia than ever before.

What is happening on the cash market

The upward trend had already become apparent earlier in the interbank and cash markets. On Wednesday, Ukrainian banks were already selling the euro for more than 50 hryvnia, and the US dollar was rapidly approaching the psychological mark of 43 hryvnia.

Financial institutions and exchange offices are responding quickly to changes in exchange rate expectations, factoring additional risks into their quotes for customers.
