Hybrids dominate: demand for these vehicles rose by 10% in the EU in February

In February 2026, the European Union’s new passenger car market grew by 1.4% year-over-year, reaching 865,400 vehicles. This was reported by Ukravtoprom, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Registrations of hybrid electric vehicles accounted for 38.7% of the market, remaining the most popular vehicles among EU consumers.
At the same time, the combined market share of gasoline and diesel cars fell to 31% from 38% in February 2025.
New car registrations in the European Union by power source:
- Hybrids (HEV) – 334,791 units (10%);
- Gasoline cars – 199,910 units (-18%);
- Electric vehicles (BEV) – 158,280 units (21%);
- Plug-in hybrids – 83,772 units (32%);
- Diesel – 70,366 units (-13%);
- Others – 18,318 units (-40%).
As previously reported by Ukravtoprom, Ukraine’s vehicle fleet was expanded by over 2,500 hybrid passenger cars (HEV and PHEV) in February 2026, which is 21% more than last year.
New cars accounted for 53% of this total, compared to 63% in February of last year.
In the new passenger car segment, the TOYOTA RAV-4 (368 units) remains the market leader among hybrids.
