The Shevchenkivsky District Court of Lviv held another hearing in the case of the murder of former MP Iryna Farion. During the hearing, the daughter of the deceased, Sofia Osoba, filed a new lawsuit for compensation for moral damages in the amount of 15 million hryvnias. This was reported by [ komersant] with reference to Suspilne.

Sofia Osoba noted that she demands life imprisonment for the prisoner. In addition, she filed a lawsuit against Viacheslav Zinchenko for compensation for moral damages in the amount of 15 million hryvnias.

“The 15 million hryvnias of moral compensation that I want is, first of all, compensation for me as her daughter and her grandchildren, who lost the most precious thing – their grandmother, who loved and appreciated them. And when they saw the photos on social media of how their grandmother was killed, I would not even wish that on my enemy. That is why the 15 million I am demanding from you, as I have said 100 times, will be used for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And you should also be interested, because your father is fighting and defending Ukraine,” Sofia Osoba addressed the defendant.

The woman also recalled the day of the tragedy. According to her, she last corresponded with her mother on the eve of the murder, and learned about the incident through a message in a messenger. The most painful moment was the last minutes with Irina Farion in the hospital.

“My mother’s weapon was a word, and she was killed for that word. The shot was in the head, because my mother was an extremely intelligent person,” the daughter of the deceased emphasized.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for September 18. The court will consider extending the measure of restraint for the suspect Vyacheslav Zinchenko.

The murder of Iryna Farion and its investigation

on July 19, 2024, political activist and professor of Lviv Polytechnic Iryna Farion was killed by a direct shot to the head on Masaryk Street in Lviv.

Currently, the main suspect in the murder is Vyacheslav Zinchenko, an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro, who was detained by police and will be held in a pre-trial detention center until at least June 8. The young man told the media that he did not kill Farion. Instead, he said that his arrest was desirable for him, as he was being hunted by Russian special services and radicalized individuals on the loose.

A petition was registered on the government’s website to posthumously award the linguist the title of Hero of Ukraine. The petition received the required number of votes, and now it is to be considered by the Ministry of Education and Science, whose head Farion called an ignoramus.

Meanwhile, Farion’s case is gaining more details.
