The list of “affordable medicines” has been expanded as of April 1: which new medications are now available
1 April 05:26
Effective April 1, 2026, Ukraine has expanded its “Affordable Medicines” program. Thirty-seven new medications in various dosages have been added to the list of drugs that patients can obtain free of charge or with a partial copayment via an electronic prescription. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The Ministry of Health explains that the update concerns medications for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and respiratory diseases. In total, the updated list now includes 748 items.
What is the “Affordable Medicines” program?
“Affordable Medicines” is a state reimbursement program that allows patients to obtain certain medications at pharmacies for free or with a partial copayment using an electronic prescription.
The program covers a range of chronic and socially significant diseases, and the list of medications is periodically updated.
What changes will take effect on April 1
Starting in April, 37 new medications will be added to the program, and the complete list is as follows:
- 621 medications
- 59 insulin preparations
- 32 combination drugs
- 36 types of medical devices, including test strips for glucose meters.
Who this is important for
Expanding the program is primarily important for patients with chronic conditions who require ongoing treatment.
The addition of new items means that more people will be able to receive necessary medications through the reimbursement program, and part of the cost of treatment will be covered by the state.
How much funding is allocated for the program in 2026
Funding for “Affordable Medicines” in 2026 has been increased to 8.7 billion UAH. For comparison, 6.9 billion UAH was allocated for the program in 2025.
The Ministry of Health believes this will expand patients’ access to treatment.
How to check if a medication is included in the program
The Ministry of Health recommends checking the availability of the needed medication in the updated list through open sources and services that use the National Health Service of Ukraine (NSZU) database.
Since the beginning of 2026, over 1.5 million patients have already benefited from the “Affordable Medicines” program. During this time, over 3.5 million prescriptions have been filled.
The “Affordable Medicines” list is available here.
You can also use the “Ask Hryts” chatbot, which shows whether a specific pharmacy participates in the program and whether the needed medication is available there. This bot is not an official service of the Ministry of Health, but it uses open data from the National Health Service of Ukraine (NSZU).
What this means for patients starting April 1
In effect, starting April 1, patients will have a wider selection of medications under the reimbursement program. If the needed medication is included in the updated list, it can be obtained via an electronic prescription at pharmacies that have a contract with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NSZU).
This is particularly important for people who regularly purchase medications for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, or respiratory conditions.
