State Examination in the form of EIT: what it really is and why you shouldn’t worry

The state examination in the form of the external independent testing for 4th graders is not an exam or an entrance test, but only a test of a child’s knowledge and skills. The procedure has a complicated name, but in terms of content, it is a regular assessment conducted at school. This was stated by Tetiana Vakulenko, director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment, in an interview with the "Komersant Ukrainian" YouTube channel.

“There is nothing of the EIT in the classical sense, as our school graduates know it, in the 4th grade state examination. Children are assessed in their classes, their answers are checked and evaluated by their teachers.”

According to Vakulenko, the main goal is not to evaluate, but to help the child and teachers understand the level of knowledge and the formation of key skills and to see in time what needs to be worked on. The results do not affect further education or the transition to the 5th grade.

She also emphasized that interesting tasks have been developed for children. In turn, parents should explain to their children that the main thing in this process is not the assessment, but understanding their strengths and weaknesses and further work on mistakes if necessary.
