A fire broke out at the Nizhnekamskneftekhim plant, part of the Sibur holding company in Tatarstan, and efforts are underway to contain the blaze, according to Mayor Radmir Belyaev.
According to preliminary reports, the fire started after an attack by unidentified drones.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Russian propaganda media.
“Emergency response teams have been deployed. Employees not involved in the incident response have been moved to a safe distance,” Belyaev said.
Authorities have not disclosed the cause of the fire.
Specialists from accredited laboratories are monitoring air quality; no threats to residents or the environment have been recorded, Belyaev wrote.
“Nizhnekamskneftekhim” is a major producer of synthetic rubbers and a key enterprise in Sibur’s Volga cluster. It is one of the main centers for the production of polymers and organic synthesis products in Russia.
