Second global outage in a month: what we know about new Cloudflare issues

5 December 14:48

Users around the world have reported large-scale outages of Cloudflare services, a company that provides critical infrastructure for much of the modern Internet. This was reported by The Economic Times, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Disruptions in its systems caused failures on many popular websites and platforms, including Canva and Downdetector, causing a wave of complaints on social media.

According to The Economic Times, Cloudflare confirmed that it is investigating issues with its Dashboard control panel and related APIs. The company’s status page states that customers may experience errors or refusals to process requests – a serious challenge given Cloudflare’s role in ensuring website stability during high traffic.

Systemic scale and recurrence of problems

This is the second incident in less than a month. In November, a Cloudflare outage temporarily affected a number of major platforms, including Spotify, ChatGPT, and Donald Trump’s Truth Social. At the time, the company estimated that the problem affected up to a fifth of global Internet traffic.

The new outage has once again drawn attention to the global Internet’s large-scale dependence on the services of a single provider. Cloudflare protects websites from cyberattacks, routes traffic, and ensures their availability, and any disruption in its operation has a significant global impact.

User reaction

On social network X, users complained en masse about the unavailability of services and the recurrence of incidents. Some of them reported business interruptions or the inability to use the tools they needed to work, demanding that Cloudflare quickly explain the causes and timeline for fixing the problems.

What is known at the moment

Cloudflare says it is working to restore normal operation of its tools. While previous outages have usually been localized within a few hours, repeated incidents raise questions about the stability of the infrastructure the company provides for much of the Internet.
