What is Germany’s military assistance to Ukraine?
Germany’s assistance consists of two parts: on the one hand, funds from the federal government’s strengthening initiative, which are used to finance the supply of weapons and other industrial materials. And secondly, the supply of equipment and ammunition from Bundeswehr warehouses. In total, Germany has provided Ukraine with military assistance worth about 28 billion euros.
The federal government’s funding initiative for 2024 alone will amount to approximately 7.1 billion euros.
So far, about 5 billion euros in 2023 and about 1.6 billion euros in 2022 have already been disbursed as military support to Ukraine. Another 2.9 billion euros were provided in the first two years of the war as procurement authorizations to be delivered between 2025 and 2028.
Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression on February 24, 2022, Germany has transferred materials from Bundeswehr warehouses to Ukraine with an estimated replacement value of about 5.2 billion euros. In addition, more than 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have received military training in Germany. The cost of this training is about 282 million euros.
