Ihor Kostiuk has been officially appointed head coach of Dynamo Kyiv.
This was announced by the club’s president Ihor Surkis in a comment to the White and Blue’s press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Kostyuk, who was acting manager of Dynamo’s first team after Oleksandr Shovkovsky’s dismissal, has now become a full-fledged head coach.
The owner of the Kyiv club emphasized that Kostiuk has trained more than one generation of talented young Dynamo players. He also assured that the coach knows Dynamo’s youth well and is not afraid to bet on young players who have already proven themselves in the main team.
Surkis noted that Kostiuk is a mentor who can find the right approach to players.
“During his work at the club, Kostiuk proved his professionalism and high qualifications, and performed well as acting head coach during an extremely difficult period for the team. The club’s management fully trusts Ihor Volodymyrovych and believes that he is able to bring the team to its rightful place in Ukrainian and European football,” Surkis said.
What are the results of Dynamo under Kostyuk’s leadership?
Oleksandr Shovkovskyi was fired as Dynamo’s head coach after a 2-0 defeat to Cyprus’ Omonia in the Conference League. Kostiuk, who had previously led the youth team, took over Dynamo, but was acting head coach.
Under Kostiuk’s leadership, Kyiv has already played 4 matches, winning 2 (over Kudrivka and Veres) and suffering the same number of defeats (from Poltava and Fiorentina).
In 2025, Dynamo will play another match against Armenian Noakh in the 6th round of the main round of the 2025-2026 Conference League (December 18).
