NABU Director Semen Kryvonos did not attend a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Anti-Corruption Committee, so MPs decided to hold an offsite meeting at NABU. This was reported on the committee’s website, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

The meeting concerned media reports about the alleged disclosure of pre-trial investigation data by NABU employees. The meeting was open to journalists, and was also attended by parliamentarians from other committees, representatives of embassies, the EU Delegation and NGOs.

Even though Kryvonos ignored the summons to the committee, the meeting took place. The MPs discussed the information published in the media about the alleged disclosure of pre-trial investigation data by NABU employees.

“The speakers unanimously emphasised the need for transparent and public communication on situations of public interest, including on the parliamentary ‘platform’ and the inadmissibility of the failure of the leadership of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine to attend a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada committee responsible for fighting corruption,”

– the Committee noted.

Following the meeting, the members of the Committee agreed with the proposal of the Committee’s Chairperson Anastasia Radina to hold an offsite meeting of the Committee at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.

On the morning of 20 June, Semen Kryvonos thanked the committee for the invitation on his Facebook page and said that he would not attend. He explained this by saying that a pre-trial investigation had been launched and it was “premature” to hold a public discussion before it was completed.

“Moreover, I consider it unacceptable to discuss the interim and final results of the investigation without the participation of the head of the SAPO, Oleksandr Klymenko. I will publicly inform the public, journalists and other stakeholders about the results of both the pre-trial and three internal investigations, which are being conducted in parallel. This will be announced additionally so that everyone can get answers to their questions about the investigation,”

– Kryvonos wrote.

Committee chair Anastasia Radina wrote that she was surprised by Kryvonos’ refusal, as the day before yesterday Kryvonos confirmed to her that he was ready to attend the meeting, and yesterday NABU confirmed to the committee’s secretariat that the director would attend.

As reported by [Kommersant] detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau are writing massive reports on their management.

Sources of Kommersant Ukrainian Komersant.Info claim that NABU detectives report, in particular, on the First Deputy Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, Gizo Uglava, on cases of interference in the work of detectives, unspoken instructions, information leaks, etc.

“Among the persons whose misconduct is reported by detectives in the reports are the names of other representatives of the NABU’s management,”

– sources say

Detectives began to be active after the scandal with the leak of information in a high-profile case.

What is known about the “information leak” in NABU

on 22 May, the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office searched the home of a NABU employee suspected of abuse of office.

The media reported that the searches were conducted as part of a criminal investigation into the ‘big construction’ case.

As the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office explained earlier, one and a half billion hryvnias disappeared during the Big Construction project. The case involves the former head of the Dnipro Regional State Administration Valentyn Reznichenko and his partner, the current consultant to the Prosecutor General’s Office Yurii Holyk.

It should be noted that the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau has suspended his first deputy, Gizo Uglava, to ensure an “objective pre-trial investigation” launched over the alleged leak.

The anti-corruption authorities promised to make the results of the investigation public.
