To strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience and restore power plants damaged by Russian shelling, it is necessary not only to rebuild these facilities but also to deploy new generating capacities. Moreover, Ukraine has already created all the prerequisites for this. This was stated by Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to him, Ukraine has created a favourable economic environment that should make the country an attractive market for investors in the construction of new power plants. This will allow such investments to be rewarded with higher returns than their European counterparts.

“Together with the energy regulator, we are creating an economic environment that would reward these investments in new power plants, which should earn more than their European counterparts… These economic conditions have already been created. on 10 June, we talked to twenty companies from Ukraine and abroad – from Germany, the US and other countries. And they are ready to deploy up to 1 gigawatt of new generating capacity in Ukraine,”

– said Kudrytskyi.

He explained that the deployment of new generation is necessary because it will not be possible to fully restore the power plants damaged by shelling by winter. In addition, there is a risk of their repeated destruction due to Russian strikes.

In general, three factors are needed to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience, according to Ukrenergo’s CEO: rebuilding thermal and hydroelectric power plants destroyed by shelling, strengthening air defence and building new generating capacities.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about the 1 GW of capacity that Ukraine intends to build by the end of this year at a conference on Ukraine’s recovery in Berlin the day before.

Meanwhile, Ukrenergo has restored the line connecting the Ukrainian power system with the European one.
