7 April 09:35

The crew of the Artemis 2 crewed mission is returning to Earth, according to the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

“At 9:35 p.m. Eastern Time, the Artemis II mission crew completed their lunar observation period and are now beginning their journey back home,” the statement said.

Astronaut Christina Koch also stated during a NASA broadcast that the Artemis II mission crew successfully completed a flyby of the Moon and set a new record for the longest human stay in space in history. Earlier, the astronauts traveled 407,000 km from Earth, thereby breaking the record set during the Apollo 13 mission in 1970.

The Orion spacecraft launched on April 1 from the U.S. East Coast. On board are NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Cook, as well as Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen. The crew was scheduled to fly around Earth’s natural satellite and return to Earth. Among other things, the mission participants tested new spacesuits capable of providing up to six days of autonomous breathing.
