Former SFS head Nasirov did not appear in court because he mobilized to the Armed Forces

9 April 21:58

Former head of the State Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov voluntarily mobilized to the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the court hearings. In this regard, the defense asks to suspend the hearing of his case in the High Anti-Corruption Court.

This is reported by Transparency International Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian".

As noted, on April 9, the accused former head of the SFS Roman Nasirov did not arrive at the HACC hearing. The defense noted that Nasirov was drafted into the Armed Forces during mobilization, so he could not come to court. He did so voluntarily. Also on this basis, the defense filed a motion to suspend the proceedings.

The prosecutor objected to the suspension of the proceedings, as Nasirov must first be summoned to court, and he can participate in the hearings remotely.

The court postponed consideration of this issue to gather information. The next hearing is scheduled for April 11.

Nasirov’s case is at the stage of court debates and is approaching the verdict. During the debate, the prosecutor has already spoken, and another defendant, Novikov, has already begun his speech. Nasirov himself and the defense attorneys were to speak in the debate, after which the defendants were to make their last statement, and then the court was to retire to the deliberation room to pass the verdict.

In May last year, the parliament allowed convicts to be released from serving their sentences in exchange for contract military service, but deprived top corrupt officials of this right. This demonstrates the legislative approach to the impossibility of “evading” punishment for grand corruption in exchange for military service.

As reported, according to the investigation, the former head of the SFS Roman Nasirov, with the assistance of his advisor, provided legal entities controlled by the owner of an agricultural holding with a VAT refund of more than UAH 3.2 billion in 2015-2016.

According to law enforcement, the former SFS head illegally received over UAH 722 million in his favor and in favor of third parties.
