Former MP Ruslan Solvar has been convicted again of illegally receiving compensation for renting a room at the Kyiv Hotel. This was reported by the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

The HACC Appeals Chamber sentenced the former MP to three years in prison, upholding the SAPO prosecutor’s appeal against the HACC verdict of 14 June 2021.

“According to the verdict, the person was sentenced to 3 years in prison with disqualification to hold positions in public authorities (except for elected ones) for a period of 1 year and a fine of UAH 8,500,” the SAPO said.

At the same time, the ruling of the Court of Appeal may be appealed in cassation to the Supreme Court within three months.

It is worth noting that this is the second time the Court of Appeal has cancelled an acquittal. Thus, on 22 September 2022, the HACC Appeals Chamber delivered a guilty verdict against the said person. However, the Joint Chamber of the Supreme Court overturned this decision and sent the case for reconsideration to the HACC Appeals Chamber.

According to the prosecution, Ruslan Solvar concealed the inheritance of an apartment in the capital in 2017 and did not refuse compensation for the housing. As a result, UAH 361,500 in compensation was illegally paid from the state budget.

Ruslan Solvar is a Member of Parliament of the VII and VIII convocations from UDAR and the BPP. In December 2019, he was served with a notice of suspicion.

In June 2024, Solvar’s lawyer stated that his client had been mobilised after receiving a summons on the street.
