Former Ombudsman Denisova: the government promised 15 million immediately, now – in 80 months

According to former Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova, the changes in the format of UAH 15 million payments to families of soldiers killed in combat operations under the new order of the Minister of Defense – for 6 years – are an exaggeration. The human rights activist, former ombudsman and head of the Ukrainian Center for Human Rights Protection said this in an interview with "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the human rights activist, the timing of the payments was constantly changing. While initially payments of UAH 15 million were made immediately, later, by order of the Minister of Defense, they began to be paid at intervals of three and 40 months, and now they are paid in general for three and 80 months. And this procedure will take effect for those families who lose a defender starting from September 1 this year. Everyone else should not worry.
“Six years, in my opinion, is too long. A child needs to be raised, if he or she is born now, he or she should be sent to school, and others who are already adults need to be taught, given a profession, a specialty, so that they can earn their own living. As a woman, as a human being, I think that 6 years is too much,” Denisova emphasized.
The human rights activist believes that at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the decision to pay UAH 15 million for the deceased was a populist decision of high-ranking officials. In her opinion, the government believed that the war would last two weeks.
