Russia’s wheat exports to China fell sharply in 2025, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing Russian media. While in the first half of 2024, the volume of exports amounted to almost $39 million, it fell to $2.5 million over the same period this year. June 2025 is particularly significant, when Russia stopped supplying wheat to China altogether.
At the same time, other suppliers are actively filling the Chinese market. Canada sold $361 million worth of wheat, Australia $190 million, and even Kazakhstan outsold Russia by almost $6 million.
The situation is similar with barley – its exports from Russia to China fell from 100 million to 42 million dollars in six months. Australia (927 million), Canada (196 million), and Argentina (93 million) are also leading the way.

The only exception among the grains was corn – its supplies from Russia to China doubled to $49 million.
Experts warn that Russia will face the most difficult grain season in almost two decades. It is expected that in July the country will be able to export only 2 million tons of wheat instead of last year’s 3.6 million tons.
As you know, China has not joined any of the Western anti-Russian sanctions. On the contrary, China has been providing Russia with dual-use goods, such as drones, and is one of the nation’s largest buyers of Russian oil.
