Electric cars in Ukraine: which regions are leading the way and what people are buying most often

26 January 16:26

In 2025, Ukraine’s vehicle fleet grew by more than 110,200 electric vehicles (BEVs), one of the highest figures in the market’s history. This was reported by Ukravtoprom , according to Komersant.

The growth in registrations was uneven: the highest activity was concentrated in several regions where electric vehicles have long been part of everyday transport.

Where electric cars were registered most actively

At the end of the year, the top five leaders were as follows:

  • Lviv region — 16,427 electric vehicles, 91% of which are used
  • Kyiv — 13,588 cars (59% used)
  • Kyiv region — 8,621 cars (69% used)
  • Dnipropetrovsk region — 8,404 cars (70% used)
  • Rivne region — 6,083 cars, 92% of which are used electric cars

These data confirm that the Ukrainian electric car market remains focused primarily on imports of used cars, especially outside the capital.

New electric cars: different regions — different favorites

There is a clear regional differentiation in the new electric car segment:

  • Kyiv, Kyiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regionsVolkswagen ID.Unyx became the leader
  • Lviv regionBYD Song Plus was the most frequently registered
  • Rivne regionBYD E2 took first place

The popularity of Chinese models is explained by their competitive price, range, and service availability, while European brands remain attractive in large agglomerations.

Used electric cars: Tesla and Leaf maintain their positions

Among used electric cars imported from abroad, demand was distributed as follows:

  • Tesla Model Y — leader in Kyiv, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Lviv regions
  • Nissan Leaf — the most popular model in the Rivne region

This reflects two patterns of consumer behavior: in large cities, there is a predominance of interest in premium electric cars, while in the regions, demand for affordable and well-known models remains high.

Why 2025 was a turning point for the market

Ukravtoprom notes that 2025 ended with a surge in activity, largely due to changes in legislation that stimulated the import and registration of electric vehicles.

December 2025 was particularly significant, going down in history as the most productive month for the Ukrainian car market in general and the electric car segment in particular.
