Electric cars from the US are replacing gasoline ones: Ukrainians bought more than 37 thousand used cars

15 October 15:56

In the first nine months of 2025, Ukrainians purchased more than 37,100 used cars from the United States, Ukravtoprom reports , "Komersant Ukrainian".
This is 11% more than in the same period in 2024.

Electric cars account for the largest share – 43%, while gasoline cars accounted for 41%.
Another 8% are hybrids, 5% are diesel cars, and 3% are gas-cylinder vehicles.

The average age of such cars is 5.6 years.

What models are popular

The top five most popular “Americans” imported to Ukraine in 2025 are:

  1. Tesla Model Y – 5301 units
  2. Tesla Model 3 – 4520 units
  3. Ford Escape – 2660 units
  4. Nissan Rogue – 1892 units
  5. Jeep Cherokee – 1879

Tesla’s dominance reflects the shift in demand for electric vehicles, which has intensified amid rising fuel prices and the expansion of the charging station network.

Electric cars topped new car sales in Ukraine

In September 2025, electric vehicles topped new car sales in Ukraine for the first time, taking a third of the market.
Gasoline and hybrid models were left behind, which analysts call a structural shift in the automotive market.

The Ministry of Energy has recently presented an interactive map of optimal locations for charging stations, which should accelerate infrastructure development and simplify the use of electric cars in the regions.

Why it’s important

  • Reducing dependence on fuel. Switching to electric transportation reduces the consumption of petroleum products, which Ukraine partially imports.
  • Availability of used cars from the United States. A developed auction system and lower prices make American cars attractive to Ukrainians.
  • Environmental effect. The growing share of electric vehicles helps reduce pollution in cities.

If the trend continues, 2025 may be the first year when electric cars will exceed half of all imported cars from the United States.
Experts expect that the next step will be the massive installation of charging stations in communities and on highways, as the demand for green mobility in Ukraine has already moved from a niche to a mass segment.
