Dynamo Kyiv won a strong-willed victory over Shakhtar Donetsk with a score of 2:1 in the 1/8 finals of the Ukrainian Cup, knocking the current trophy winner out of the tournament. This was reported by the press service of the capital’s club, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs
The course of the game
Shakhtar were the first to score in the match. In the 49th minute, Pedrillo fired a shot into the penalty area, and Meirelles, putting his head up, accurately sent the ball into Ruslan Neshcheret’s goal, opening the scoring.
However, Kyiv responded with an effective attack in the 72nd minute. After receiving a pass from Kabaev, Andriy Yarmolenko handled the ball in the Shakhtar penalty area and scored a shot into the left corner of Anatoliy Riznyk’s goal, restoring the balance.
Five minutes later, after a corner kick, Eduardo Guerrero was the first to find his way into the penalty area and struck an accurate shot that became the winning goal for Kyiv.
The result of the match
The score did not change until the final whistle. “Dynamo defeated Shakhtar 2-1 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Ukrainian Cup, leaving the current trophy winner out of the competition.
This victory has a special symbolic meaning, as last year Shakhtar won the Ukrainian Cup, defeating Dynamo in the final on penalties with a score of 6-5 (1-1 in regular time).
