The state nuclear company Energoatom spent UAH 78.8 billion in the first five months of 2025 to compensate for the difference between the market and preferential electricity prices for Ukrainians. This was reported by the company’s press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports. The funds will be used to maintain affordable tariffs for household consumers.
According to the company, Energoatom fully covered the cost of the so-called public service obligations (PSO) for January-May this year, and also paid 80% of the June obligations. The company is effectively subsidizing electricity for ordinary Ukrainian families, reducing their utility costs.

According to the plans for the whole of 2025, Energoatom is to spend a record 163.9 billion hryvnias for this purpose. For comparison, last year, electricity subsidies amounted to UAH 145.4 billion, which is UAH 18.5 billion less.
The increase in spending demonstrates that the government is stepping up its support for the population in the midst of the war, when Ukraine’s energy system is under constant attack and the economic situation remains difficult for many families.
Reference: Public service obligations are a government mechanism that forces generating companies to sell a portion of their electricity at fixed prices below market prices. The difference between the real and the preferential price is compensated by the state through special payments.
