Energoatom: UAH 126 million written off from the company for the occupied ZNPP – all nuclear power is under threat

The national nuclear power generating company Energoatom has announced a critical threat to Ukraine’s energy security due to the decision to exclude the company from the list of enterprises protected from enforcement actions during martial law. This was reported by the company’s press service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Financial losses
According to Energoatom, the State Enforcement Service forcibly collected UAH 126 million from its accounts. These funds were to be used to finance the repair campaign of power units before the heating season.
“We would like to note that the write-off relates exclusively to the debt of ZNPP, which is under the occupation of the Russian Federation and, accordingly, under force majeure circumstances,”
– the company said.

Threats to the power system
Energoatom says that further actions by the executive service may lead to a critical financial condition of the company and jeopardize
- timely completion of scheduled repairs of nuclear power plants before the heating season;
- stable operation of power units that provide up to 60% of the country’s electricity;
- fulfillment of contracts with international partners;
- social payments to more than 30 thousand employees.
Energoatom’s demands
The company calls on the authorities to:
- review and cancel the relevant order of the Ministry of Strategic Industries;
- to return Energoatom to the status of a critical infrastructure enterprise with a moratorium on enforcement of decisions;
- protect the state energy company from financial pressure.
Context
Energoatom reminds that the company not only ensures stable electricity generation, but also fulfills the program of special duties, supplying the cheapest electricity to the population.
“In the current conditions of war, such a decision looks at least irresponsible,”
– the company notes.
Energoatom warns of a threat not only to the company, but also to millions of Ukrainians who depend on the stable operation of nuclear generation.
