The power system will withstand the heat: Ukrenergo assures that electricity will not be cut off

The national energy company Ukrenergo does not expect to introduce power outage schedules in the summer, even during periods of peak consumption due to the heat.

This was reported by the company’s press service in a comment to Ukrinform, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The company noted that the repair campaign at the generation facilities was carefully planned to ensure the stable operation of the power system and meet the needs of all consumers.

Ukrenergo also emphasized that this year the power system did not suffer such large-scale attacks as in 2024. Thanks to the restoration work, some of the damaged generation facilities were brought back into operation and the transmission system networks were restored.

In addition, the construction of new distributed generation facilities helped to improve the situation.

The company emphasizes that it is doing everything possible to ensure that high-voltage substations and trunk power grids are ready for increased loads in the summer and during the heating season.

In the summer of 2024, Ukraine faced intermittent power outages caused by a combination of factors: damage to energy infrastructure due to Russian shelling, scheduled repairs at nuclear power plants, and increased electricity consumption during the heat wave.

The main reasons for the outages:

Damage to energy infrastructure: Russian attacks have caused significant damage to power plants, making it difficult to ensure a stable power supply.

Scheduled repairs at nuclear power plants: Nuclear power plants traditionally undergo maintenance in the summer, which reduces the available capacity in the grid.

Increased consumption during the heat wave: High temperatures lead to an increase in the use of air conditioners and other cooling equipment, which increases the load on the power grid.

Measures to stabilize the situation:

Electricity imports: Ukraine has stepped up electricity imports from Europe to cover the shortfall.

Repair and restoration: Intensive work is underway to restore damaged energy infrastructure.

Implementation of outage schedules: If necessary, hourly outage schedules are applied to balance the power system.
