Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Kyiv in the coming days at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Türkiye.
According to the publication, the agenda of the visit is expected to include a free trade agreement and peace efforts in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
In an interview with RBC-Ukraine, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Ankara Nariman Dzhelal also confirmed that the Turkish president will soon visit the Ukrainian capital.
“We are now actively working on organizing President Erdogan’s visit to Ukraine. President Zelenskyy personally conveyed the invitation and I repeated it during a meeting with the Turkish president. This visit will require significant efforts, as there are many issues that hinder its implementation,” he said.
During Erdogan’s visit to Kyiv, economic cooperation will be an important issue. Especially the entry into force of the free trade agreement between Ukraine and Turkey is expected.
This agreement aims to increase trade between the two countries and contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction.
It should be noted that the drone manufacturing company Baykar plans to complete the construction of a plant in Ukraine in August. 2025. It is likely that Erdogan will attend the opening of the plant.
“We have completed 80% of the construction (of the plant – ed.), and orders for the machines are coming in. The date of production will be determined by the course of the war, but the facility will be ready in August 2025,” said CEO Haluk Bayraktar in an interview with Reuters.
The plant is expected to produce TB2 drones or their TB3 variant with a larger payload.
According to the company’s CEO, Baykar is also working on developing its own engines – currently, the Akinci and Kizilelma are powered by Ukrainian-made engines.
The company also recently signed an agreement with the Ukrainian company Ivchenko-Progress on a separate joint development of a turbofan engine.
As a reminder, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope that Turkey would once again play a central role in mediation between Russia and Ukraine, hinting at the continuation of peace efforts on Turkish soil.
